Eric Gagnon, Senior Systems Test Engineer, introduces a challenging project where our technical team developed a combined Cold Spill and Jet Fire system for an FLNG asset, based on Cryogel® Z and Pyrogel® XTF. This solution achieved four Lloyd’s Register Type approvals and will be of particular interest to engineers seeking to resolve clashes and reduce weight on floating assets.
In a second project reference, Eric addresses space saving benefits on pipe-racking for an on-shore project where combined cold conservation and jet fire protection was required. The original design did not account for the expansion of the intumescent fire protection, the Cryogel Z and Pyrogel XTF solution represented a 400% thickness reduction compared to a conventional build up, enabling the construction team to complete the project as designed.
Eric received his BS in Mechanical Engineering from Wentworth Institute of Technology in 2009. When he joined Aspen in 2018, he brought with him more than a decade of industrial and fire protection experience. His fire protection expertise spans across many industries including refining, LNG, pressure vessels, as well as building and construction. Eric's work at Aspen has focused on the increasing demand for the development, testing and certification of systems utilized on topside and subsea applications.
